Nari Shakti Manch
Nari Shakti Manch (NSM) was started to address the fact that women workers are more invisible than men. Yet, women, at every step, face triple the burden (wage-work, homework, and childcare). Even among workers, the prejudice against women is apparent. NSM emerged from the need for women to be specially organized not only for justice in the broader society but also for equal voice among their own social and class groups. NSM combines labour and social issues in order to address women workers’ conditions in a holistic framework.
NSM believes that it is women’s leadership that can build viable communities. It is important to listen to women workers, make women visible, and facilitate their assertion so that they can transform themselves, their families and their communities, through confronting authorities, accessing their citizenship rights, and becoming the leaders for a more egalitarian society.
